Superior

Superior is a suburban town in Boulder County with a rich coal mining history. Founded in 1896 and named for the "superior" quality of its coal deposits, the town has transformed into a modern residential community that offers exceptional quality of life. With a population of about 13,000, Superior maintains a close-knit, family-oriented character while providing easy access to both Boulder and Denver.

What sets Superior apart is its extensive outdoor amenities: 594 acres of parks, open space, and green space; 27 miles of trails; and standout attractions like Wildflower Park, which features a zip line, outdoor fitness trail, and sports courts. The town along US 36 between Boulder and Denver provides stunning Rocky Mountain views from almost every neighborhood.

Superior is served by the Boulder Valley School District with well-regarded schools. The community has strong preservation efforts and a commitment to maintaining its small-town feel despite its growth. The Marshall Fire of 2021 impacted the community, but the town has been rebuilding with resilience and a renewed sense of community strength.
