Overview

About Louisville

Louisville is a home-rule municipality of about 21,000 people in southeastern Boulder County, situated between Denver and Boulder. Founded in 1877 with the opening of the Welch Mine, it was named by local landowner Louis Nawatny. At its peak, around 30 mines operated in the area. Today, Louisville is consistently ranked among Colorado's most livable cities and is rated #1 in Boulder County on Niche.com.

The city is known for its charming, walkable historic downtown along Main Street, filled with locally owned shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries. The Louisville Street Faire brings live music and vendors to downtown on Friday nights in summer, and an ice rink at Steinbaugh Pavilion operates in winter. Louisville offers over 30 miles of paved recreation trails, with 99% of residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park.

Louisville has excellent schools with a 97% graduation rate, two community recreation centers, and a dense suburban feel where most residents own their homes. Key outdoor amenities include Davidson Mesa Open Space with panoramic Flatiron views, Coal Creek Golf Course, and the Coal Creek Trail system. The Louisville Historical Museum preserves the town's mining heritage, and the Miners Memorial in front of City Hall honors the coal miners who built the community.

AJ's Take

"Louisville consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in Colorado, and for good reason. The schools are excellent, the downtown is charming, and the community is incredibly family-friendly. It is one of the most popular choices for buyers relocating to the Boulder area. I have helped dozens of families find their home here, and it continues to be a top recommendation."
