Boulder, Colorado
Family-friendly suburban living with exceptional trail access, open space, and some of Boulder's best schools. South Boulder offers a laid-back lifestyle with the Flatirons as your backdrop.
Overview
South Boulder is a collection of family-friendly neighborhoods whose major growth occurred in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Originally established as a suburb on the outskirts of Boulder, it was home to prominent farming operations, including the Martin Farm (now the Martin Acres neighborhood), founded by William Martin, one of Boulder's most well-known ranchers.
Today, South Boulder is known for its laid-back lifestyle, strong sense of community, and close proximity to iconic trails and open space. The area is bordered by extensive Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks land, including access to South Boulder Peak, Bear Peak, and Green Mountain, making it a gateway to some of Boulder's most popular hiking areas. The South Boulder Creek Trail provides miles of paved and natural-surface trails for walking, running, and biking.
South Boulder offers a mix of housing types from mid-century ranch homes and bi-levels to large custom homes, as well as apartments and condos. The neighborhoods have an active community feel with well-maintained parks, excellent schools, and easy access to Highway 36 for commuting to Denver. The Table Mesa Shopping Center serves as a community hub with grocery stores, restaurants, and services.
AJ's Take
"South Boulder is one of the best family-friendly areas in the city. The schools are excellent, the trail access is incredible, and the community feel is strong. I have helped many families find their perfect home in neighborhoods like Martin Acres, Highland Park, and the Table Mesa area. If you want good schools, outdoor access, and a genuine sense of community, South Boulder is hard to beat."
