Mapleton Hill

Mapleton Hill is one of Boulder's oldest, most prestigious, and largest designated historic neighborhoods. Established in the late 1800s, it was among the first populated Boulder neighborhoods due to its excellent drainage and panoramic hilltop views. The first building on Mapleton Avenue was the Mapleton School in 1890. The neighborhood earned National Register of Historic Places designation in 1980, protecting its architectural character for generations to come.

The majority of Mapleton Hill's approximately 500 single-family homes were built between 1895 and 1910, featuring Victorian, Queen Anne, Craftsman, and other turn-of-the-century architectural styles. These homes are characterized by covered porches, bay windows, original woodwork, expansive lawns, and meticulous landscaping. The canopy of towering mature trees, some over a century old, creates a shaded, almost storybook atmosphere.

Mapleton Hill sits on the western edge of central Boulder, climbing the lower slopes of the foothills. It is within a 10-minute walk of downtown Boulder and adjacent to Chautauqua Park, a National Historic Landmark that offers direct access to the iconic Flatirons hiking trails. Residents enjoy an active neighborhood association, the annual Mapleton Hill PorchFest (a community music festival featuring 50-plus bands playing on historic porches), and the benefits of state tax credits and preservation grants for historic restoration.

Mapleton Hill is Boulder's most prestigious historic district. Homes here are architectural treasures, many built between 1895 and 1910 in Victorian, Queen Anne, and Craftsman styles. Properties sit on generous lots with mature landscaping, and many have been meticulously preserved or thoughtfully updated.
